What is Pain Management?
Pain management is a specialised area of healthcare focused on alleviating pain and improving the quality of life for those suffering from acute or chronic conditions. It involves a comprehensive approach that includes diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing support to help patients manage pain effectively.
Pain management encompasses a wide range of techniques and therapies aimed at reducing pain. It is not limited to medication but includes physical therapies, lifestyle changes, and innovative treatments to address the root causes of pain. Our approach at Sheffield Physiotherapy integrates multiple physical and sometimes psychological or acupuncture therapies to create a personalised plan for each patient.

Innovative Pain Management Solutions
At Sheffield Physiotherapy, we are dedicated to staying at the forefront of pain control techniques. Some of our innovative solutions include:
Theraflex (bionic mobilisation)
Theraflex treatment is a form of bionic mobilisation for the spine. It gives the physiotherapist the ability to progressively restore movement of the spine wherever it has become restricted, relaxing tight muscles and helping to relieve trapped nerves.
IDD Therapy (spinal decompression)
IDD Therapy is the number one non-invasive spinal disc treatment, for people suffering with back or neck pain which has proved challenging to improve with standard physiotherapy, osteopathy or chiropractic treatment.
CS1-Shockwave
CS1 Shockwave is a cell level treatment that promotes healing and reduces pain. The treatment involves directing intense pressure pulses into the body at the site of the pain and injury. It is ideal for treating challenging tendon and ligament injuries, as well as long-standing spinal pain.
MLS Laser Therapy
Therapeutic Laser when applied to inflamed or damaged tissues helps to accelerate the body’s natural healing process making it an ideal treatment for sports injuries.
Magneto-Pulse (automated)
Magneto-Pulse is particularly effective for healing bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It is an optimal treatment choice for conditions like osteoporosis and fibromyalgia. Additionally, it can significantly reduce recovery times for bone and soft tissue injuries.
MRI Referral & Review
Sit with a Physiotherapist who will review and explain your MRI images and discuss your best treatment options. We can also refer to a Sheffield Based 1.5T MRI (magnetic resonance image) at the English Institute of Sport (EIS). If you self-refer EIS will charge you the same fee as our referral costs without offering a review of the MRI report and images.
